The beginning of East of Anfield

The East of Anfield, Liverpool Supporters Club (fondly known as EOA) was formed, mainly to provide passionate and fun loving Liverpool FC supporters an ideal place to congregate, watch and support their beloved football team.   It all started when a few passionate Liverpool supporters, both local and Liverpool born and bred, decided to form a fan club, with an international outlook and based on principles which epitomised everything the famous football team stood for, which is passion, fun, simplicity and a heart.

The idea to form a fan club was mooted over many weeks with copious amounts of beers. One issue we had to address was choosing an ideal location to get the journeymen and women from around the world to congregate and watch live matches involving Liverpool F.C. and likewise to get acquainted with them. The lads therefore decided to approach an English pub, The Penny Black, located at Boat Quay.  Without much hesitation and realising the potential of this club, Penny Black agreed to host their pub as a home for the Liverpool faithful. This was the beginning of a partnership between East Of Anfield and Penny Black, to make Penny Black a focal point for all Liverpool Supporters.

The choice of the East of Anfield name was unanimous, purely because of Singapore’s location in the Far East and Anfield being the home ground of Liverpool.

Since the inception of East Of Anfield, our fan base has been growing steadily and we have had the privilege of meeting many Liverpool F.C. fans from around the world whenever we congregate at Penny Black to watch live games. The atmosphere on match days at Penny Black is just electric.  The place is decorated entirely with Liverpool flags and scarves.  The Liverpool anthem “You’ll Never Walk Alone” is played at full volume, with everyone joining in.  This ritual is repeated at the end of the night, win, lose or draw.  The spirit amongst the Liverpool fans is just amazing.  The fans sing, even when they are losing.  To the many Scousers who have visited Penny Black, it’s like a home away from home.

We at EOA are confident that with the support of all Liverpool fans, we will grow in numbers and stature.  The day is drawing near when we shall all rejoice at the sight of our Captain lifting the19th League title.  If you are not at Anfield to watch this happen, the next best place to be is down by the quayside, in a pub called Penny Black.  To all Liverpool Supporters, we welcome you to join us and be part of this passionate and fun filled fan base.
